Claude Academy Is Live: Free AI Courses From Anthropic, No Credit Card Attached

This blog gets edited with Claude Code every day. I write it and CC checks the facts and grammar. In the beginning, I learned the tool the way most people learn AI, by poking at it until things worked. There was no course. Most people I know picked up ChatGPT or Claude the exact same way, which explains why so many people use these tools daily and still feel like they’re guessing.

Anthropic just took a real swing at that gap. Claude Academy went live last week at academy.claude.com, and the pitch is simple: free courses, an email address to sign up, and badges when you finish. I went through the catalog so you know where to start and where the catch is.

What Claude Academy Actually Is

Claude Academy is a free training site with 26 courses organized into five product tracks and a fundamentals section. The product tracks cover Claude.ai, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude Tag, and the Claude Platform for developers.

It is not built from scratch. Anthropic ran a smaller version called Anthropic Academy since March, hosted on a third-party platform, and this relaunch moves everything to its own domain and roughly doubles the catalog. If you tried the old version and bounced, the new one is a different experience.

Where a Beginner Should Start

Skip the product tracks at first and start with the AI Fluency section, because it teaches the part that transfers to every chatbot, not just Claude. AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations is 14 lessons over about four hours, built around a framework of delegation, description, discernment, and diligence, which in plain terms means knowing what to hand off, how to ask, how to judge the answer, and when to double-check.

The companion course, AI Capabilities and Limitations, runs about three and a half hours and covers why models sound confident while being wrong. A seven-minute tutorial called The 4 Properties of AI gives you the short version if you want a taste before committing an afternoon. This is the same territory as the AI skills I’ve argued actually matter, and it is good to see an official course land there instead of another prompt-tricks listicle.

Badges, Signup, and the Fine Print

Everything is free, signup is an email address, and there is no credit card anywhere in the flow. A Claude account adds progress tracking and completion badges you can post to LinkedIn.

On the badges, keep your expectations calibrated. They show you did the coursework, and that has some value on a profile in a job market where AI literacy keeps showing up in listings. They are not accredited certificates, and nobody hiring will treat them like one.

The Honest Limitations

The obvious one: this is Anthropic teaching you Anthropic. The fundamentals courses are surprisingly vendor-light, and the skills in them apply to ChatGPT or Gemini just as well, but the five product tracks exist to make you a Claude user. That is fine as long as you see it clearly. Free education from a vendor is still marketing, the same way every HubSpot certification is.

The catalog also skews toward work. Courses on Claude Tag and Cowork assume a team and a workplace rollout, so if you wanted lessons on using AI for meal plans and travel, that is not what this is. The fundamentals section is the piece for everybody.

A free, official course catalog beats learning by random YouTube tutorial, and the AI Fluency track is worth an afternoon even if you never touch Claude. Start there and treat the rest as optional.
